Irish Ridge Alpacas is a family run farm since July 1st of 2003. Located in Cottage Grove, a small township outside Madison, WI, Irish Ridge creates harmony between Alpacas and humans. Donna and Clayton Smith are more than owners to the Alpaca community residing on their farm. Each of the animals is known by name and each one has a distinct personality. The bond between Alpacas and Owners give new meaning to family farm.
Donna and Clayton first laid eyes on these beautiful creatures at the first Great Midwest Alpaca Festival in Madison during April of 2003. Just as any good expectant parents would do, they spent the next few months preparing their facilities for the new arrivals and the beginning of what was to be a rewarding life experience.
Irish Ridge Alpacas is multi-pronged. The farm raises, breeds and sells alpacas periodically, when the time is right for both Owner and Alpaca. They also board alpacas as an extended part of their farm family. Another facet of their farm is the art using the generous alpaca fibers to craft handmade items such as socks, gloves, blankets and more. Each is a labor of love. The farm is open to tours by appointment only and various designated dates, as well as, classes teaching the various arts that include spinning and felting.
